The story of Agent X family has grown to feature a sizable cast, some considered less popular than others. yuri brianIn particular, he doesn’t always receive a warm welcome in or out of the story thanks to his obsession with his older sister, Yor. However, chapter 89 could be a sign that Tatsuya Endo is adding more depth to Loid Forger’s “rival”.
Some question Yuuri’s character is that his existence is completely tied to a very cliché joke. Up until now, Yuuri’s main identity has been his sis-con traits – with his obsession with Yor stretched to the extreme. After using the same trope thus far, Yuuri finally gets his first wake-up call in chapter 89, thanks to a new character being thrown into the mix.

Mission 89 continues the storyline that made up chapters 80 to 86, including the first serious showdown between Loid and Yuuri. The arc ends in Loid’s favor, leaving Yury now harboring a grudge for not capturing the disguised superspy Twilight. This frustration leads him to recklessly raid a building filled with anti-government criminals, forcing a last-minute rescue by Ostania’s new SSS agent, Chloe. This chapter finally sees Endo use Chloe as a mouthpiece to interrogate Yury’s obsession with his sister, making it clear that it has real-life consequences in the story.
This may be the first time the story actually treats Yuuri’s obsession as more than a joke and makes him stop to reconsider it. Before Chloe, all the characters were content to let this cliché continue, perhaps to the audience’s chagrin. Even Yuuri’s superiors still passively play his straight man role. However, now, when Yury realized his sister also wanted his happiness; it could be a sign that Endo might return to his current personality and ask him to do more than criticize Yor, or get hit by her when she panics.
Chloe could be a useful partner for Yury in the future – she’s a proactive character willing to verbally spar with Yury, which would be more beneficial. scenes featuring Yury exist outside of Forgersor, again, his SSS superiors, who mostly stand by and observe his quirks rather than communicate with them. She expanded greatly on his backstory by revealing details about his college days. Between this chapter and the previous one, which gave Fiona Frost some impressive moments, Agent X’s family may finally be figuring out a way for its supporting characters to exist outside of their original pigeonhole.
