Solo Leveling will continue to exist, at least for a little longer, with a newly announced spin-off series about Sung Jinwoo’s son.
As reported by Redbeanime, Solo Leveling has announced a new webcomic spinoff called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. Ragnarok will focus on Sung Jinwoo’s son named Sung Suho. The trailer, which introduces the new series, didn’t reveal much about what the synopsis could be. However, it will likely adapt the rest of the side stories in the webnovel series where Suho has awakened his powers as the son of Shadow Monarch. Fans were able to catch a glimpse of Suho, who has light blue eyes rather than purple like his father, holding a curved black dagger before disappearing.
Solo Leveling, originally written as a webnovel by Chugong, was adapted from the webcomic in March 2018 with Dubu, CEO of Redice Studio, as the artist. The manga became hugely popular, with many fans praising the series for its vibrant, detailed, and vibrant artwork. The series ended in December 2021 and, according to Kakao Page, has had more than 4.3 billion views. Its popularity led to the announcement of an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures, a studio known for adapting Black Butler, Erased, and Nier: Automata Ver1.1a.
The highly anticipated Solo Leveling anime
Fans expressed their joy when the popular webcomic was finally born. Solo Leveling has become one of the most anticipated anime adaptations, especially since it has Shunsuke Nakashige and Hiroyuki Sawano signed on as director and composer. At the time of the announcement, Dubu expressed his excitement at seeing the anime adaptation, saying, “I feel so overwhelmed to think that real anime is being made right now. It’s all thanks to you, the fans who have loved and supported Solo. Ground filling. I am filled with gratitude. Thank you very much.”
Not long after, Dubu died of a brain hemorrhage due to a chronic illness. The artist’s death left fans in grief because Dubu wouldn’t be able to see the story he helped create come to fruition. Solo Leveling didn’t forget Dubu and his great contributions when they announced that the series would be releasing special side stories to honor Dubu’s legacy. A team of illustrators who have worked with Dubu will illustrate these new chapters.
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok launches on April 10. The special ending chapters are available to read on Tappytoon and Tapas.
