Warning! Contains spoilers for PPPPPP Chapter 70!PPPPPP just met an untimely end, canceled by the powers that be Shonen dance, but its ending has left a strong impression in the hearts of readers when turning the main character into a villain. PPPPPP is a creative manga series by Mapollo 3 that follows Lucky, an estranged member of a family of piano prodigies, as he tries to reunite his siblings one last time before his mother’s death. The manga is a far cry from a typical Shonen Jump fighting series, possessing a groundbreaking art style and quirky plot, so it’s probably only fitting that its ending goes against the originals. Shonen’s traditional storytelling conventions just like the rest of Shonen Jump’s PPPPPP did.
Chapter 70 is the final chapter of PPPPPP, coming in after a series of chapters ending arcs of various minor characters. This chapter originates from chapter 64 when Lucky’s father finds him unconscious by his mother’s grave. While unconscious, Lucky realizes that his time as the dominant personality in his body is over and is forced to give control to his inner talent. This persona of his was locked in for mysterious reasons that the series couldn’t fully delve into before it was cancelled. But it’s clear that this great personality is the exact opposite of a typical Shonen Jump hero, as the first thing it does when it gains control is to go against Lucky’s wishes and slap his father in the face.
PPPPPP’s ending is as creative as the rest of the Manga
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lucky’s brilliant personality is a darker expression of his personality. Its initial reveal is presented in an extremely ominous manner, with Lucky’s buried personality dressed in funeral garb and attempting to take control. However, at that point in the story, Lucky was able to suppress his dark side and retain control. However, after the shocking death of his mother, he can’t seem to face the guilt and is therefore forced to step aside.
This is an abrupt development and it may go against Mapollo 3’s original plan for the story. In this final chapter, Lucky acts almost like a caricature of the good-natured two-shoe protagonist Shonen instead of behaving as usual. This makes the dark parts of his inner nature even more prominent and thus makes the ending of PPPPPP much darker than the others. At the same time, it feels like Lucky is dying along with the manga itself, adding to that a deeply tragic element.
PPPPPP’s ending reflects the pain of early cancellation
Fans may never know the true ending that Mapollo 3 has planned for the series, which is unfortunate since this dark ending isn’t really a satisfying one. However, while it may be dissatisfying, Lucky’s beating of his father will provide some immediate purification, because his father is the main antagonist of the series and because it can be considered Mapollo 3 lashed out at Shonen Jump for canceling the series early. However the fan explains it, PPPPPPIts abrupt ending proves that it innovates to the end and proves that Shonen dance made a big mistake in canceling it.
