Netflix cartoon coming soon, Scott Pilgrim takes off, promises to tell the story of everyone’s favorite Canadian deadbeat in a fresh way by fleshing out its characters like never before. The Scott Pilgrim series began as a quirky graphic novel filled with charm, wit, action, and an entertaining plot that resonated with a generation trying to figure out their lives. Before the sixth and final episode of Bryan Lee O’Malley was released, the Edgar Wright-directed film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and a video game have been announced. However, the new animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off plans to improve on previous attempts to adapt the story.
O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim franchise has built an army of passionate fans, and in January 2022, they all received news that excited them. Netflix has announced that a new animated series is in the works from Bryan Lee O’Malley and anime studio Science Saru, which created the incredibly stylish Devilman Crybaby. Members of the stellar cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will also return to voice their roles in the series, but according to an interview with the show’s writers and producers with the LAtimes, those actors will have more depth to work with. same job than before.

With the original creator of Scott Pilgrim working closely with series fans and fellow writer/producer BenDavid Grabinski, fans may be happy to know that Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is in the works. good reason. While O’Malley revealed in a recent interview that he was hesitant to revisit the series, his longtime friend Grabinski helped unlock the series and its character’s potential. O’Malley said, “… When I was 25, I didn’t know how these people felt necessarily. But I’ve seen more life and now I have more context for those characters.” Grabinski helped his friend realize that there were many more stories to tell about Scott Pilgrim and its rich cast of characters.
Throughout the plot, characters like Ramona, her seven evil exes, and Scott’s friends are given little time to develop. “We’re seeing them more outside of their relationships with [Scott]”, Grabinski said in the interview. O’Malley and Grabinski are looking to build a stronger emotional connection, especially with Ramona. While many key elements of the story will remain the same in the Netflix series, fans will likely be surprised by the new layers of depth and character in which the cast is being written in an adaptation. gives the series creator another chance to tell his story.

An artist and storyteller rarely gets the opportunity to remake their own series, let alone add their years of life experience and improved talent to an already well-received series like Scott Pilgrim. The eight-episode anime will provide more time and opportunity to develop the world and relationships the series is already famous for. Bryan Lee O’Malley’s beloved series has the opportunity to be remade into a work that surpasses both the film and the original source material, making Scott Pilgrim takes off perhaps Scott’s finest hour.
