The upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising movie has revealed a new trailer focusing on Homura Akemi. Studio SHAFT is animating the film with Akiyuki Shinbo as chief director and Yukihiro Miyamato as director. The film will premiere in 2025.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica, an original anime project created by the Magica Quartet (Akiyuki Shinbo, Ume Aoki, Gen Urobuchi and producer Atsuhiro Iwakami), premiered in January 2011 as a TV anime. The series lasted until April of the same year and had a total of 12 episodes (the last two were delayed due to the Great East Japan Earthquake).
Although the anime project concluded the story, the series also spawned multiple manga series (adaptations and spin-offs), a novel by Nitroplus, a dedicated magazine, and video games. Two summary films were released in October 2012. This was followed by a third film, titled Rebellion, which premiered in October 2013 and featured a new story – a sequel to the television anime . The film is a prequel to Walpurgisnacht. All three films will be released on Blu-ray Ulltra HD on January 29.
