Warning: SPOILERS for episode #11 of Pokémon Horizons
The second ancient Poke ball appeared in Pokémon Horizon, like the one Roy released the rare Black Rayquaza from. Since the first ball contains a shiny Legendary Pokémon, one can only imagine what kind of ultra-rare Pokémon might be inside the second ball.
Roy received the Ancient Poke Ball from his grandfather and both believe it to be empty and inactive. Roy accidentally freed Rayquaza from the ball, and Rayquaza took off to other lands not long after being freed. There is no reason to expect another ball to appear, much less in Paldea. However, in episode #11 of Pokémon Horizons, Roy discovers a second Ancient Poké Ball around the Titan-sized Arboliva’s neck, in the area where Black Rayquaza was recently discovered.
What’s in the Second Ancient Poké Ball?
As soon as it was released, Black Rayquaza was on its way to Paldea. It looks like this other ancient Poke ball was probably the cause, though how it knew about the ball or why it was interested in it remains a mystery. The ancient Poke Ball was once thought to have belonged to a great adventurer, so it’s entirely possible that there are up to six (a full team) out there, with four left to discover. It is possible that ancient Poké Balls are scattered around the world, left by that explorer as a treasure for some future adventurer to find. If that’s the case, then other balls capable of containing Pokémon are at least as rare as Black Rayquaza, if not more.
At this point, the Second Ancient Poké Ball can hold almost anything in it. At the very least, it seems likely that all of these balls will contain very rare Pokémon, but rare is a relative term, and there are few things that can measure rarity on par with Black Rayquaza. One can speculate that the other Legendaries of Hoenn, Kyogre and Groudon, may also be kept in the Ancient Poké Balls, after all, along with Rayquaza, they are known as the Super-Ancient trio. There may also be rare Pokémon from around the world, to show how much this adventurer has gone. And of course, there’s always the possibility that it contains a never-before-seen Pokémon, like Riko’s pendant did.
Pokémon Horizons will reveal some of the rarest Pokémon in the world
While Roy still doesn’t own the second Ancient Poké Ball, a preview of episode #12 showed him holding it, so he should have it soon. Roy could have chosen to be a little more careful with this one and not try to open it, saving it for another dire situation, in which case this mystery would continue for much longer. What’s in the second Ancient Poké Ball that is sure to become one of the big questions in Pokémon Horizonmaking this new series even fresher and more exciting than before.
