One-Punch Man artist Yusuke Murata may be taking a long break from drawing manga due to poor health.
As detailed on Anime Senpai, One-Punch Man was suddenly suspended, moving the scheduled release date of Chapter 183 to next month. However, in a recent Twitter Space discussion, Murata revealed that he may be taking a longer break from drawing manga due to the constant workload affecting his physical health. “Every month, it becomes a lot harder to manage time for family, work and myself.” Murata explained. “When I started working on a new anime, my health declined and I thought about resting for a long time, and I might be taking a break soon.”
Unfortunately, health problems are common to people working in the anime and manga industries. According to recent data, more than 98% of cartoonists develop a condition called Repetitive Stress Injury (or RSI) that can cause prolonged pain and stiffness. The main cause of this situation is the use of pens for a long time, which many mangakas have to do to meet deadlines. Due to the demanding nature of the manga business, many famous artists suffer from health problems. One example is My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi, who has had to pause his iconic series multiple times over the years due to ongoing and unresolved health issues. Via Twitter, Murata even begged Horikoshi to prioritize health over work.
The original One-Punch Man went on hiatus for two years
ONE’s original Webcomic One-Punch Man debuted on the artist’s personal website in 2009, with no official publisher. A remake of Yusuke Murata’s manga launched on Shueisha’s Tonari no Jump website in June 2012. ONE is still drawing the original webcomic and recently shocked fans by suddenly publishing a new chapter after 2 years. year hiatus. Madhouse later adapted the series into an anime, which premiered in October 2015 and currently consists of two seasons. Despite the confirmation for Season 3, the studio has yet to announce an official release date.
While Murata’s ill health heralds an uncertain future for his One-Punch Man manga, he continues to work on Zaiyuki, an anime based on Journey to the West. This story is the same Chinese folk tale that inspired the legendary Dragon Ball franchise. In addition to webcomic One-Punch Man, ONE is also working on a fantasy manga series called Versus. Written by ONE with Series Layout by bose, this manga follows 47 different heroes chosen to face off against the Great Demon King’s army. The manga also features art by Azuma Kyoutarou, known for their work on the Tenkaichi manga.
The One-Punch Man comic is available in English from VIZ. The popular Madhouse anime adaptation is available on Netflix and Hulu.
