The challenge of Transformers toys is learning how to convert them from one mode to another, even if the process is much faster in the franchise's various vehicles. Thankfully, Robosen's automated and licensed Transformers toys are coming out in real time, and the dastardly leader of the Decepticons is now a part of them.
The newest self-transforming figure from robotics/electronics company Robosen, this Megatron figure is more than meets the eye. Recreating his Generation 1 form (with slight changes), this is a version of Megatron unlike any fans have ever collected. Transforming itself and boasting the raspy voice of Frank Welker, this toy is ready to take on his Autobot enemies like Optimus Prime and Grimlock.

Megatron is the newest self-transforming transformer toy in Robosen's line
Revealed on April 25, 2024, Robosen's Megatron figure is one of several similarly licensed Transformers produced by the company. The character transforms from tank to robot, both evoking and updating his classic appearance. While the tank's shape is different and much more locomotive than his classic Walter P-38 gun mode, his grey/silver color scheme and robot mode design are clear updates of Generation 1. However, this goes beyond just his appearance, with Megatron also sounding like he did in the original Transformers cartoon.
Megatron has various audio clips and responses to commands, with these provided by none other than his classic voice actor, Frank Welker. One such line is “What heroic nonsense!” — an iconic phrase uttered by the Decepticon in The Transformers: The Movie. Megatron responds to touch and voice requests, with fans able to command him to transform simply by speaking. Of course, he wouldn't be ready to fight without his trusty arm cannon, which remains on his arm in robot mode. Robosen also created two other self-transforming toys for Optimus Prime and Grimlock. A similar toy for Bumblebee was also produced by the company, although it did not transform.

Transformers is celebrating the franchise's 40th anniversary
The announcement of the Robosen Megatron character comes at the perfect time given the state of the franchise as a whole. Transformers is celebrating 40 years on shelves and in the pop culture space, with the original iteration of the franchise launching in 1984. Many of these characters are simply repackaged versions of toys from the Microchange and Diaclone toy lines from Japan, of which Megatron is an example of a character from the former. Originally meant to be an actual pistol, the toy's rules required a change for the Decepticon leader. Since Transformers: Generation 2, Megatron has been primarily associated with using a tank as an alternate mode.
In addition to the Robosen figure, other toys are also being released to commemorate the occasion. Many of these are part of the Transformers: Legacy toy line, which features characters from many different timelines and continuities. This includes several versions of Megatron, with the line being the home of figures for the Transmetal II Megatron dragon from Beast Wars: Transformers — a diminutive Core Class representative of Transformers: Energon Megatron and the Voyager Class and Leader class Transformers: War for Cybertron Megatron and Transformers: Armada Megatron, both transformed into tanks. Armada Megatron can also be combined with parts of the Transformers: Legacy Tidal Wave toy, recreating scenes from that anime.
