Nico Robin and her Hana Hana no Mi devil fruit come to life in this gorgeous One Piece cosplay.
Created and uploaded to Reddit by SkylineStars, the Devil Child costume recreates the look of the Straw Hat Pirates archaeologist after the two-year lapse of the story. Many arms sprout from the cosplayer’s shoulders and sides, reflecting Robin’s strong ability to show off extra limbs. SkylineStars has also created equally impressive cosplays for other popular anime icons like Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop and Ryūko Matoi from Kill la Kill.
Robin isn’t the only character in Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece that has recently inspired the imaginations of master costume makers; in fact, the archeologist’s former boss, Sir Crocodile, is the general focus of fan-generated content. For example, Reddit user Akira shared their thoughts on the King of the Desert, and another fan posted a cosplay of the former Warlord of the Sea with the title “Crocodile aka Luffy’s mother”. The title refers to a prominent fan theory that asserts that the King of the Desert is not only a transgender man but also the other biological parent of the main character’s battle-obsessed and food-obsessed protagonist. Furthermore, the other members of the Straw Hat Pirates were brought to life by die-hard fans. Soul King Brook’s musical prowess and colorful fashion sense were highlighted in a recent cosplay showing the skeleton pirate wearing an orange feather boa, and both Nami’s front and back looks time-skip are all featured in a collaborative cosplay.
There have been other exciting developments for the One Piece franchise beyond the incredible cosplay cases. Notably, the English dub of the anime adaptation of Toei Animation has finally reached Crunchyroll in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. The first episode hits the streaming platform on July 5, and the rest will be rolled out in batches. Finally, Crunchyroll will have all of the dubbed episodes from the East Blue Saga to the “Wano Country” season.
What’s more, Netflix’s live-action One Piece version is coming at the end of August. The company has poured an incredible amount of money into the production of the show as each episode has a budget of $18 million. According to Jacob Romero Gibson, the actor who plays Usopp, the money was well spent; he praised the project’s special effects team in a promotional interview.
