The only daughter of the Vinsmoke family isn’t the only popular One Piece character recently inspired by expensive collections. For example, Sideshow is also accepting pre-orders for a Boa Hancock statue that comes with a price tag of over $800. The statue depicts the Snake Princess wearing her signature outfit consisting of a colorful sarong dress and a dark red blouse with a deep V-neck. It also refers to her Mero Mero no Mi Paramecia type Devil Fruit, which allows her to turn anyone attracted to her into stone.
Furthermore, Bentham of the Wild (aka Mr. 2 Bon Clay) and his colorful fashion sense have been immortalized in a figure that retails for $296. This entry shows the former member of Baroque Works and the new leader of Newkama Land wearing flamboyant, ballet-inspired costumes with a menacing scornful grin on his face. While Bentham was initially introduced as a villain, the genderless pirate eventually developed a deep friendship with protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and actually sacrificed himself for the Pirate King. future in both Arabasta and Impel Down.
Of course, Eiichiro Oda’s beloved story isn’t just inspiring companies looking to capitalize on One Piece’s popularity for profit; it also stimulates the creativity of fans creating their own content for the franchise, especially cosplay. For example, Instagram user Mia_raspberrycosplays teamed up with fellow cosplayer Linichii to precisely animate Nami, the Straw Hats’ weather-controlled navigator. The two-for-one cosplay recreates the character’s design from before and after the time-skip of the story.
Similarly, one One Piece fan on Reddit perfectly captured Vinsmoke Sanji’s great personality. As the chef of the Straw Hat Pirates, Sanji is responsible for keeping the crew well-fed. One of the many commenters on the post asked the cosplayer if he could cook, to which he replied, affirming, “I make mean Pop Tart.”
Oda’s One Piece manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media, and the anime adaptation by Toei Animation is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu.
