The upcoming anime reboot Spice and Wolf recently shared new visuals for the series to celebrate Halloween.
Animated by studio Passione, the series is titled Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, scheduled to premiere in 2024. Character images of Holo and Lawrence were recently released, showcasing the voice actors Ami Koshimizu and Jun Fukuyama, who will voice them. The respective roles are Holo and Lawrence.
This new image, steeped in the spooky holiday spirit, offers a glimpse of the upcoming anime. The image features Holo in a purple witch outfit holding her companion Kraft Lawrence in rag doll form. The original anime Spice and Wolf, produced by Studio Imagin, first premiered in 2008 with 12 episodes. This was followed by two OVA episodes before the sequel, also consisting of 12 episodes, which aired the following year, this time animated by Marvy Jack and Brain’s Base studios.
The story of Spice and Wolf follows Kraft Lawrence, a traveling merchant plying his trade from town to town until one fateful night when he discovers a sleeping wolf goddess. in her cart, disguised as a human girl named Holo. Exhausted from her duties in the countryside, she strikes a deal to lend Lawrence the power of “Holo the Wisewolf” in exchange for companionship on his travels. However, Lawrence soon discovers that having an ancient goddess as a companion is not without its complications. Will this wolf girl become too wild to be tamed?
Spice and Wolf is based on the Japanese light novel series written by Isuna Hasekura and illustrated by Jyuu Ayakura. It was published by ASCII Media Works from 2006 to 2019, including a total of 22 volumes. A manga adaptation by Keito Koume was also made from September 2007 to December 2017. In 2016, Hasekura and Ayakurahe returned to continue the story with a sequel novel series, Wolf and Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf. Revolving around Lawrence and Holo’s daughter Myuri and her companion Cole, the latter series is currently ongoing and has released 9 volumes to date. Both the original series and its sequel have been licensed by Yen Press, expanding the reach of the popular series.
Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf is scheduled for release in 2024.
