A new comedy manga spinoff based on the popular Pokémon Horizons series will be released next month.

Following the success of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, a new manga based on the series will be released next month to bring fans more content from the series. Pokémon Horizons is a fresh start for the series as it is the first season of the Pokémon anime without Ash as the main character. Now, fans who want to know more about Riko and Roy’s journey have the manga to look forward to.
The manga was revealed in Shogakukan’s Ciao magazine. In their August issue it was announced that the manga will be published in the magazine’s next issue, which launches on August 3. The announcement comes as the anime series approaches its final 16th volume, with the manga released two days before the final episode aired. This manga will likely fill the void for fans until a sequel to the animated series is announced and will build on the new starter Pokémon Horizons offered to the franchise.
Pokémon Horizons Comedy Side Story Coming This August
While not much has been revealed about the manga’s plot, it has been confirmed that the story will be a Rikka Kise comedy based on the Pokémon Horizons series and will be titled Pokémon ~ Detouring. Volt Taklers!! Considering the name and info from Pokémon ~ Riko’s Treasure ~ Twitter by mangaka Kahori Orito, the story will likely follow the Rising Volt Taklers as they run into silly situations with their Pokémon. The tweet from Orito clarifies that Riko will be starring in the upcoming gag-manga.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series introduces a whole new cast of protagonists into the franchise’s vast world for the first time, including protagonists Riko and Roy. Two young adventurers team up with Rising Volt Tacklers to travel the world to unravel mysteries and confront familiar rival trainers. Although the animated series follows the main story, it looks like the new manga will show the team’s goofy side stories as their adventures lead them across different regions, offering a glimpse into the future. Pokémon Horizons: The Series is currently still airing, and while it may be difficult for Western fans to watch the new episodes, episode 13 of Pokémon Horizons can be watched on TVTokyo. The official English version will air on Netflix sometime in 2023, although an official date has yet to be announced. Fans will be able to read the new spinoff Pokémon manga in the September issue of Ciao magazine, released on August 4.
