The previously announced animated series based on the Magic: The Gathering board game and collectible card game is currently in production. The teaser image (shown above) was released during Netflix's Geeked Week 2024.
The series will be produced in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast, with Patrick Osborne (Feast, Nimona) serving as supervising director and executive producer. Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, and noted the new creative direction for the project.
This is truly a dream collaboration with NETFLIX, HASBRO ENTERTAINMENT, WIZARDS OF THE COAST and the brilliant Patrick Osborne to bring the many worlds of MAGIC: THE GATHERING to streaming. Those new to this rich story will learn what millions of fans who play every day already know. MAGIC is the ultimate storytelling sandbox, filled with complex, iconic characters, incredible mind-bending powers and portals to every genre imaginable. It is also a powerful reminder that no matter what culture, country or walk of life you come from, we can all come together and be heroes together.

While it has yet to be announced whether or not a Magic: The Gathering animated series will be made by a Japanese animation studio, it's worth noting that this isn't the first time the franchise has received an animated project.
For the Wilds of Eldraine expansion in September 2023, it had an anime-themed trailer by Studio Pierrot that was active, featuring Yui Ishikawa and Yuichiro Umehara, as well as music by Hiroyuki Sawano and Awich. The game also had an animated trailer for Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty in February 2022. The game was animated by WIT Studio and featured music by Ling Tosite Sigure.
Magic: The Gathering is a tabletop and digital card game created by Richard Garfield, first released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast.
