Bakugo is one My Hero Academyhis most popular characters, but his original iteration will ruin everything that made him so great. Luckily, mangaka Kohei Horikoshi chose to go in a different direction with this character. Based on how connected Bakugo is to the series as a whole, his original version may have completely changed the plot of My Hero Academia.
Bakugo is Deku’s rival, so it’s a big foundation and motivation for him. Bakugo is extremely confident to the point of cruelty, causing him to bully Deku before joining UA. However, after acknowledging Deku’s newfound strength, Bakugo used him as a motivation to get stronger and prove himself. This focus on Deku allows Bakugo to find out Midoriya’s secret before any other character, which only makes him try harder. This motivation, which really makes Bakugo so appealing to audiences, may have been missing from the original version of the character.
My Hero Academia’s Bakugo initially had a different personality
In the author’s note at the end of the third chapter of My Hero Academia, Horikoshi mentions that he originally intended to go in a much different direction from Bakugo. Instead of being the loud-mouthed guy he is now, Bakugo initially became a natural-born genius who unintentionally insulted people, saying things like “Anyone can do it” to his friends. other characters. Horikoshi felt this version of the character was too boring, so he replaced the concept with the much more directly offensive character that fans know and love today. This ultimately improved the story, as this original would strip away everything fans loved about Bakugo.
Since the original version of the character is a natural born genius, this probably won’t give them the motivation to progress and become better than Deku. This would make Bakugo’s appearance in battle against strong enemies like Shigaraki less appealing and could make him much less popular. His original personality also probably won’t make him one of Deku’s bullies at the start of the series, which will cost fans some of the great Deku & Bakugo moments, including seeing Deku regret his past actions.
Interestingly, part of the original design was retained in the final version. Bakugo is shown in most of the series as a “genius”, meaning he is very adept at using his powerful Quirk and most likely to become a professional Hero. Ultimately, it’s clear that Horikoshi’s original Bakugo version would be a bad thing for the series as a whole, potentially preventing it from achieving success, confirming its importance. Bakugo is the success of My Hero Academy overall and made fans appreciate the character even more knowing they could have had a much worse version.
