A fan of My Dress-Up Darling’s creation succeeded in recreating one of Shinichi Fukuda’s manga covers.
Posted on Reddit by Sakura Kitsune, the image represents a near-perfect interpretation of the story’s second volume cover; while the facial expression is slightly different, the cosplay accurately depicts Shizuku’s dark purple hair and maid outfit. The cosplayer’s Reddit account also has a photo of the outfit that isn’t a close-up, and in one comment, Sakura Kitsune explained that “cosplaying a cosplayer’s outfit is purely my hobby.”
My Dress-Up Darling tells the story of Marin Kitagawa, a high school student who deeply loves anime and video games and has always dreamed of becoming a cosplayer, and Wakana Gojo, her classmate who has Impressive sewing skills because of his secret Hina Doll. – make passion. Working together, they follow Kitagawa’s dream and create impressive outfits; Shizuku, a fictional video game character in the world of My Dress-Up Darling, was one of their first inspirations.
My Dress-Up Darling appeals to manga fans around the world
Fukuda’s ongoing manga first appeared in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in January 2018, and it has produced 11 volumes so far. More than 8.5 million copies of My Dress-Up Darling are in circulation worldwide, and the title ranks sixth in the print category of the 2019 Da Vinci Magazine Next Manga Awards.
The story became more engaging and gained a growing fan following when the anime adaptation of CloverWorks premiered in January 2022. It stars Hina Suguta (Kotaro Lives Alone) as Kitagawa. and Shōya Ishige (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) as Gojo, My Dress-Up Anime Darling went on to receive multiple nominations at this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Best New Film and Best Character Design . The show has also been renewed for a second season.
The anime’s director, Keisuke Shinohara, recently shared his thoughts on why My Dress-Up Darling, especially the character Kitagawa, is such a big hit with fans. “She respects herself as well as others, which makes her loved. Marin isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but when it comes to romance she can be shy, and that’s understandable to anyone in love,” he stated. So it’s no surprise that Kitagawa himself has inspired many real-world cosplays. For example, costume master Nymphahri shared that her work brought to life Kitagawa’s cheerful and cute personality.
