My Hero Academia will get a new OVA before the next season launches this fall.
The news comes from Shonen Jump Magazine and is posted on Twitter for others to see. The announcement notes that the OVA will hit theaters while the other episodes are shown there. However, the film will only be in theaters for one week. Regarding the plot of the OVA, it will be about Mirio bringing a unique gaming tournament to Class 1-A: “Mirio, a third-year student, comes to join the group. What he brought with him was the card game Heroes Battle, created by Let’s Support Students! (A game in which each player fights using the maximum of his or her cards.) Who will win the card battle?”
My Hero Academia OVA and sequel
This will be the 8th OVA that My Hero Academia has had during its run. The various OVAs to date have all tended to tie into the main series’ storylines and flesh out certain storylines about the classes that go into forming a baseball team. As for Mirio, his role in this series is very unique compared to many main or supporting roles. He is introduced in Season 3 as one of the top students at UA due to his abilities. It was later revealed that he was a student of Nighteye, All Might’s former partner. Nighteye felt Mirio, aka LeMillion, should be All Might’s successor, but Deku was chosen instead.
Then, in Season 4, Mirio lost his powers and it wasn’t until Season 7 that he regained them to help join the Paranormal Liberation Front along with Class 1-A and the main Pro Heroes. What role he will play in “The Finale” is anyone’s guess, but the “card tournament” will be another unique situation in which Mirio participates. Additionally, it allows fans to see Class 1-A in a more in-depth “comfort setting,” based on their status at the end of Season 6.
My Hero Academia Season 7 will premiere this fall and will likely wrap up the entire story. At the end of last season, Tomura Shigaraki was surpassed by All For One, their bodies and abilities becoming almost unstoppable. Deku tried to wage a one-man war with the Occult Liberation Front and nearly died. However, he has unlocked the full power of One For All. A final battle is taking place between these opposing factions.
MHA’s new OVA will premiere in Japan on October 20.
