A new seinen is about to hit screens as the manga Zatsu Tabi: That’s Journey announces an anime adaptation.
In the July issue of Dengeki Maoh magazine, according to Anime Corner, it was recently revealed that Zatsu Tabi: That’s Journey, written by Kenta Ishizaka, will be adapted into an anime project. The author celebrated the news with a special illustration, showing the characters’ joy at the announcement. There is no word yet on which studio will produce this adaptation, who will direct it, or any casting details regarding the voice actors.
The series follows Chika Suzugamori, a struggling mangaka who wants to succeed in the industry but is constantly beaten with cruel rejections. When she found herself about to give up, a new thought occurred that led her to an epiphany. She decided to go on a travel adventure, creating a manga based on her experiences in different locations. The commemorative illustration included in the announcement shows the main character with a set of minor characters he met throughout the series in the background. It contains the words that can roughly be translated as “Anime project is being planned” and “I am happy!”
In this life short series, the protagonist chooses where she’s going through a Twitter poll she posts on her account. This also affects the actual direction of the series, as authors use their Twitter accounts to help decide where characters will go in the manga. Ishizaka puts out a poll on the 27th of every month asking where to travel; The reaction to this determines where the two go in real life and where Suzugamori goes in the manga. The author labeled this with the intro, “The next destination in this manga is chosen by, yes, you, the reader!” This unique concept connects the reader directly to the story.
Zatsu Tabi: That’s Journey is a gem manga series that started in 2019 and has released nine volumes. It even received a nomination for “Best Print Manga” at the next Manga Awards 2021. It will be the first of Ishizaka’s projects to get an anime adaptation. The author has also provided one-shots for many anthologies based on existing titles. This includes brands like Danganronpa, Heavy Object and Choujigen Game Neptune.
News about the upcoming project, including a potential release date and its creative team, is expected to emerge in the coming months.
