The Shadow the Hedgehog manga, which was first announced in August, also coincides with the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, which is due out this December. The third film in the series will also focus on Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves. The rest of the “Sonic Team” will also reprise their roles, with Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower, and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna.
This is not the first time the Sonic the Hedgehog series has had a manga adaptation, with the first installment being published in the April 1992 issue of Shogaku Ninesensei magazine. It also has multiple elementary school versions, published in Shogaku Ichinensei, Shogaku Sannensei, and many others.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog series was first released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. It has since expanded to multiple platforms, most of which were created by Sonic Team; spin-offs in the racing, fighting, party, and sports genres. The franchise has also spawned merchandise lines, animated series, feature films, and print materials.
