Ao Ashi’s reverence for sports icons goes far beyond Iniesta, instead often praising teammate Xavi as the gold standard for midfield intelligence. To pay tribute to both players’ former teammate Lionel Messi, Ao Ashi’s author Yūgo Kobayashi also drew a congratulatory image after the World Cup. Similarly, Messi also plans to mix fact and fiction as he prepares to launch an animated series.
