Kyoto Prefectural Police have indicted a 27-year-old man from Ibaraki Prefecture, who was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of forcible obstruction of business operations, after allegedly sending multiple threatening messages to Nintendo on last year.
According to the investigator, this man sent 39 messages threatening to kill people within Nintendo, through the investigation form on the company's website between August 22 and November 29.
In December last year, Nintendo announced the postponement of the “Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals” tournament and the cancellation of the “Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo” event due to threats aimed at the company's employees, as well as threats for tournament staff and spectators.
The Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals are scheduled to take place on December 16-17 at the Ota City General Arena. The Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo event has been scheduled for January 20-21 and will host the “Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024″ tournament, as well as the “Final Stage of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge” and ”Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024″.”tournaments. All three tournaments were postponed.
Nintendo held the “Splatoon World Championship 2024″ tournament and the “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024″ tournament on April 13 and 14 in Japan.
