Warner Bros. has released the official poster for the anime film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Coming soon September 22, 2024.
The poster features Helm Hammerhand – King of Rohan, Héra, and Wulf – Lord of Dunlending.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim It is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 13, 2024, and worldwide on December 11, 2024.
It was previously revealed that the anime film will be present at New York Comic Con (NYCC), which is scheduled to take place from October 17 to 20, 2024.
Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Eden Of The Eastwill direct the film, with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood and Toby Emmerich serving as executive producers.
The film is produced by Oscar-winner Philippa Boyens, known for her work in the trilogy. Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit with Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou.
In an interview with Anime Expo, director Kenji Kamiyama spoke about the female character in the film.
“It’s not uncommon in Japanese animation for female protagonists to be the main character, but it’s rarer in live-action adaptations of The Lord of the Rings. Our film has a strong female lead in Héra, and our story is told by Tolkien’s noble character Éowyn, so women are well represented. I think there are a lot of fans who really like Tolkien’s original work, so I hope those people will enjoy it. Making this film was a fun challenge.”

Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of House Helm Hammerhand, the legendary king of Rohan. A surprise attack by Wulf, a cunning and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking revenge for his father's death, forces Helm and his people to make a last stand in the ancient stronghold of Hornburg—a mighty fortress that would come to be known as Helm's Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Helm's daughter Héra must summon the will to lead the resistance against a dangerous enemy bent on their complete destruction.
