The official website for Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II, the second season of the Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online television anime, revealed on Saturday that voice actress Tomori Kusunoki as her character Llenn will perform the show's ending theme song “Little Dancer.” The unit Jazzin'Park returned from the first season's ending theme to write, compose, and arrange the song.
The second season will premiere on October 4 on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11, and will air on October 5 on MBS and TV Aichi. The anime will air on Crunchyroll.
Tomori Kusunoki will return as the lead role of Llenn. Other returning cast members include Yōko Hikasa as Pitohui, Chinatsu Akasaki as Fukaziroh, and Kazuyuki Okitsu as M.
Masayuki Sakoi (The Cautious Hero: The Overpowered But Too Cautious Hero, Matoi the Sacred Slayer, Princess Resurrection) will return to direct the anime at A-1 Pictures (Studio 3Hz transferred its animation planning and production business to A-1 Pictures in June). Yōsuke Kuroda (My Hero AcadeKaren, Trigun, Gundam Build Fighters, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) will return to supervise the series' series scripts, and Yoshio Kosakai (The Marginal Service, Needless) will return as character designer and chief animation director. ReoNa will perform the opening theme song “GG”.
The story follows Karen Kohiruimaki, a 183 cm (6 ft) tall college student who is insecure about her height and is bad at dealing with height issues. She enters the world of Gun Gale Online with her avatar, Llenn, who is less than 150 cm (5 ft) tall and dressed all in pink. She meets a beautiful, brown-skinned female player named Pitohui. They hit it off, but one day, Pitohui forces her to join “Squad Jam,” a team Battle Royale variant of the Bullet of Bullets tournament.
The anime adapts Keiichi Sigsawa's Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale online novel series, which is itself a spin-off of Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online light novel series. The first Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online anime premiered in April 2018 and ran for 13 episodes. Aniplex of America streamed the series as it aired on Crunchyroll and Hulu, and released the series on Blu-ray Disc in 2019.
Yen Press is releasing Sigsawa's light novel series in English.
