J-Novel Club describes the summary of Let This Sorrowful Soul Retire light novel as:
It was a golden age for treasure hunters—adventurers who yearned for wealth, fame, power, and glory, who risked their lives in treasure vaults around the world. “Become a treasure hunter.” Krai and his childhood friends vowed to become the greatest of them all, but that dream should have died the day Krai realized he was not cut out for the job! However, expectations continued to rise, along with Krai’s fear for his life. While his childhood friends moved closer to their dreams, this grieving soul had one simple wish: to pack up and retire!
