This is a 4-koma manga that (mostly) deals with the social anxiety aspect of Komi’s daily life. Written and illustrated by Oda Tomohito, he makes an outstanding effort to make victims of social anxiety more comfortable approaching and talking to others, while encouraging them to made friends through the series, Komi Can’t Communication.
The story does not revolve around a particular character; Oda Tomohito makes sure to set the stage and build the story for most of the supporting characters in the series, which most mangakas can’t do! With that said, Komi-san and Tadano are definitely the main stars of the series. With the manga reaching 400 chapters, we’re still learning more and more about the cast in each chapter.

Summary of Komi Can’t Communicate
Chapter 398 (3rd Year Summer Festival), 3rd Year 1st Graders are having all the fun they can at the fireworks festival. However, the main focus of this and upcoming chapters is dedicated to the undercard duo, Wakai & Manbagi. You’ll find the funny jokes that this series has used over and over again, but still makes you giggle just like the first time.
Manbagi & Wakai walk in pairs around the festival grounds, passing various stalls, be it for food or for fun; healthy feeling can be felt through the screen. With most awkward moments, it sheds light on the fact that not everyone can stay calm in front of their significant other. This chapter ends with some hint of Manbagi & Wakai interaction, reinforcing the potential ship that is about to set sail.
Chapter 399 (3rd Year Summer Festival, Part 2), Manbagi & Wakai leave the festival crowds to breathe in the fresh lakeside air. The two sit down and speak their hearts out. At the same time, Manbagi opens up about the romantic feelings and heartbreak our lovely Tadano-kun has caused her. Wakai finally settles his mind and lets his thoughts flow as they come.
Wakai is open about feeling cozy and calm around Manbagi and goes on to admit that he prefers Manbagi to the always-beloved Komi-san, showing that he has come forward with an indirect confession. However, unfortunately, they were ignored because the fireworks had already started.
Later, Wakai sees this as an appropriate opportunity to confess while fireworks are being fired, following the cliché characteristic of most romance manga/anime confessions. Much to the surprise, Fireworks ends as soon as Wakai confesses his love, surprising both of them for very different reasons.
Chapter 400 (Kawai-San’s House), big trouble. Kawai invited Tadano and Komi-san to her place as an excuse to show them ‘something’. What might her real motives be? Meanwhile, Tadano and Komi-san are having healthy interactions in the taxi that Kawai booked.
When the lovebirds enter Kawai’s apartment, they are immediately greeted by Kawai’s overprotective cousin (but he introduces himself as Kawai’s brother). Protective enough to threaten Tadano by radiating bloodlust towards him. We also come to meet his weird parents, who once again claim to be Kawai’s parents, but they are not.
That aside, the three of them met in Kawai’s room. Kawai admits that she invited them because she wanted to have friends at home, but she didn’t know what to do after that. So Tadano took the initiative to appreciate her inviting them over and was happy for her because she now has a family, in the process of reviewing the past he stated that Kawai has no family members family attend any school event.
The final chapter ends with Kawai showing off his series of trophies and awards. It then leads to Kawai explaining her tragic middle school life where she didn’t get the chance to hang out with her friends. Tadano had an idea of what was going to happen. So, before she spells it out, Tadano agrees in a heartbeat, inviting her to the summer festival. Leads to the events of Chapters 398 to 400.
