The novel Yatagarasu takes place in the world of Yamauchi where domination is wielded by a clan of the titular race. During the events of Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai, Yatagarasu Yukiya becomes embroiled in Imperial intrigue after he becomes the retainer of a royal prince.
NHK Enterprises briefly describes Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai as:
In a world of flying crows, trouble is lurking…
Yukiya is the lackluster second son of a regional boss in the Northern Territory. His younger brother surpassed him in studies. He’s also not good at sword fighting. Not that this ever bothered him. So it was shocking that this boy, who always claimed to have no ambitions, was the one chosen to serve the Prince at court. What awaits Yukiya and his new master is conspiracy, murder, a mysterious drug and an invasion from an unexpected enemy. Can they save the world of Yatagarasu (three-legged crow in Japanese mythology)?
