Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 English dub error ‘lost in translation’
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 4’Hidden Inventory 4′ around 8:30, after the battle with Suguru, Toji is commenting/for the first time in a long time recalling that he has a son named is Megumi.
In the original version with Japanese subtitles, this line reads:
“I would rather avoid more trouble here. You have parental blessings. But even with that blessing, all of you were defeated by a monkey like me who couldn’t even use Curse Techniques. If you want to live a long life, never forget that. Oh, speaking of blessings… Yes, I almost forgot. I named him Megumi.”
However, when the anime dub was in English for season 2, episode 4 last week, the translation was changed with an obvious error.
Instead, Toji mentioned his son Megumi, instead, the text reads: “Oh, talking about blessings… That’s right, I almost forgot. I named my Cursed Soul Megumi.”
This is an obvious fault for the Jujutsu Kaisen series as Toji’s Cursed Soul is actually a terrible worm-like creature wrapped around his neck that holds various powerful weapons. and allows him to switch between them based on necessity rather than his son – one of the main characters of the series.
Unfortunately for this mistake, it’s not surprising that difficulties translating the script between Japanese and English can lead to minor errors like these.
To the diehard fans who discovered this bug, Toji’s voice actor in the English dub Adam McArthur has now addressed the issue and what can be done to fix it in the future – for sure is that it needs to be fixed before the DVD box set can be produced for global distribution.
Reference social mediathe veteran voice actor explains:
“There was some confusion based on the literal translation and the studio simply made a mistake. They will look into the problem and see what/how can be fixed. That’s pretty cool. I can assure you that a lot of people are really interested in this content.”
McArthur later admitted that “The reality is you ask your actors to read their source material, watch the subtitles, get them ready for their taping. requests to edit the dialogue based on things they know are important to manga readers, these are just a few examples of the effort to make this dub great for you as we know that the Is it worth it?”
“We love you. We are also fans. We wanted to create something really special that we can all be hyped for. I think we’re doing it and we can’t wait to see what else is coming!! See you in Shibuya.”
The last mention of Shibuya is an allusion to the next plot to be adapted in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime; It’s worth noting that season 2 will be on pause for ongoing content before the new season begins on August 31st.
