Episode 17 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 introduced a shikigami, which may be too powerful for even the strongest witches to control.
After running out of chances to survive against Shigemo, Megumi played her trump card and summoned Mahoraga. a shikigami that cannot be controlled by the user.
As soon as this beast was summoned, it knocked out Megumi and rushed towards Shigemo. Sukuna arrived in time to save them after leaving Uraume and fighting Mahoraga himself.
After a tough battle, Mahoraga was overwhelmed by Sukuna’s Domain Expansion technique and cursed fire and died.
Who is Mahoraga and how is it summoned?
“Mahoraga,” also known as “Eight-Handed Sword Splitting Divine General Sila,” is one of the shikigami that belongs to users of the “Ten Shadow Technique”.”
The Ten Shadow Techniques are a cursed technique inherited by those of the Zenin clan, one of the most dangerous clans in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
What sets Mahoraga apart from the remaining Ten Shadows Shadow Shikigami is the fact that it cannot be controlled. Throughout history, there is no record of anyone taming this wild animal.
Mahoraga cannot be summoned by handprint, as it requires a ritual to be summoned into this world. Opponents can also be added to this ritual if they are standing near the summoner.
After completing the ritual circle, the summoner recites: “With this treasure, I summon… The Eight-Handed Sword, Various Gods Sila , Mahoraga,” and the shikigami arrives.

The appearance of Mahoraga
“Mahoraga” looks like a giant human with four pairs of wings extending from its eye sockets. The back of its head has an extension that resembles a long tail.
On top of the head is a rather large wheel with eight handles, and the lower part is covered by hakama pants (traditional Japanese pants).
Mahoraga’s entire body is pale white and has a metal chain design in this collarbone area.

Mahoraga’s cursed technique
Mahoraga’s adaptability is its cursed technique, made possible thanks to its eight-handled wheel.
When an attack hits Mahoraga, the wheel spins, thus adapting its entire body to that specific ability. In his fight with Sukuna, Sukuna’s “Dismantle” technique was useless against him for this reason.
Mahoraga also has a cursed tool, the “Sword of Destruction”, attached to its right hand. This cursed tool is comparable to a special level cursed tool (for example, the Playful Cloud used by Maki Zenin).
The sword of destruction is covered with positive energy, thus has a strong resistance to negative energy (cursed spirits). Sukuna was overwhelmed by this weapon during their battle.

Will Mahoraga return in the future? (SPOILER!)
After being defeated by Sukuna in the Shibuya Arc, Mahoraga would return on two occasions.
First, in the Culling Games Arc, it will be summoned by Sukuna (as his host in this arc is changed from Itadori to Megumi) to fight Yorozu, who is reincarnated into the body of Tsumiki (sister of Megumi).
Second, during the Shinjuku Contest Arc, it will be summoned against Gojo Satoru (after he is freed from the Prism Realm).
