Prime Video's official X account announced on October 22, 2024 that the anime film Look Back will be available to stream on the platform globally from November 7, 2024.
A new image illustrated by director Kiyotaka Oshiyama was revealed to commemorate the announcement.
Director Oshiyama expressed excitement about the upcoming Prime Video release, saying, “Look Back is a work that combines the powerful story of Tatsuki Fujimoto's original manga with my own perspective to create a movie. Even though it's only a 58-minute short film, I was really surprised that so many people came to see the film multiple times in theaters. I'm excited that this worldwide streaming release will allow people who couldn't make it to theaters and even more people to experience the film. By watching it over and over again, I hope viewers will take the time to enjoy the film from many different perspectives. Also look for the many Easter eggs hidden throughout the film. I hope that the visual power in this animated film will convey its appeal, even if just a little.“
Tatsuki Fujimoto also shared his thoughts on the release and expressed gratitude to Oshiyama and composer Haruka Nakamura, saying: “When the Look Back film project was first planned, I learned that if we adapt the original material then it will become a short film and we need another 30 to 40 minutes of original content for it to work as a commercial film. I heard that the number of theaters that can show this movie will be very limited, and in the US, movies under 60 minutes can't even be shown in theaters. The fact that we were able to release it in its current form and in such quality is all thanks to director Kiyotaka Oshiyama's decision. I was really surprised at how the movie brought to life parts that I had difficulty conveying clearly in the manga. Additionally, Haruka Nakamura's score is so perfectly on point that I can't imagine it any other way. I'm really grateful to both of you. Thanks a lot! And to everyone who came to the theater, thank you! For those watching on Prime Video, the animation is amazing, so please watch it on the biggest screen possible! Thank you in advance!“
