A recent game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants was met with a surprise when MLB star Shohei Ohtani stepped up to the plate, with Ohtani's wife Mamiko Tanaka performing to celebrate “Ladies Night” at Dodger Stadium in LA.
Via Yahoo News (JP), The Dodgers' latest game saw star hitter and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani step up to the plate to the tune of “Il vento d'oro,” a song from the fourth season of the “Golden Wind” arc in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Chosen by the player's wife, Mamiko Tanaka, for “Women's Night,” in which players step up to the tune of songs chosen by their partners, Ohtani's usual theme of rapper Lupe Fiasco's “The Show Goes On” was changed to the Yugo Kanno theme, which is usually played when the heroes figure out the best trick or strategy to defeat their opposing stand-in users.

Mamiko Tanaka, a professional basketball player, married Ohtani in February of this year, and the two will go public in May. Tanaka's choice of song is fitting, as “Il vento d'oro” is often described as the Golden Wind's victory or execution theme — a vote of confidence from his partner as Ohtani stormed American baseball, one hit away from hitting his 250th home run. Many online have speculated whether Tanaka is a fan of the anime, with this serving as confirmation. Even the song's composer Yugo Kanno got in on the fun, posting on his X (formerly Twitter) account, “It looks like Ohtani used a JoJo song as the theme for his debut. I'm honored! Congratulations on the two-run double!”
Series creator Hirohiko Araki himself recently praised Ohtani in Part 9 of The JoJoLands. Chapter 16 of the long-running manga features a character named Congressman White, who mentions that his daughter Sophie has spoken about the star player. Other songs that night included two songs by female empowerment icon Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter’s chart-topping “Espresso,” and Missy Elliot’s classic “Work It.” Perhaps the song was a good omen, as the Dodgers beat the Giants 3-2, with Ohtani putting in a solid performance, scoring a two-run double and an RBI single.

JoJo fans are eagerly awaiting the anime adaptation of Steel Ball Run
JoJo fans are still eagerly awaiting an anime adaptation of the unique and beloved Steel Ball Run. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's initial release under the direction of streaming giant Netflix was met with some controversy, with fans criticizing the awkward and sporadic release schedule. Many felt that the episodic release model killed the series' momentum, commenting that the continuous release model and long breaks between Part 1 and Part 2 did not suit JoJo's unique storytelling style.
As Netflix retools, fans have been left to imagine what an anime adaptation of Steel Ball Run might look like. Animator Oraky recently created a stunning unofficial trailer for Araki’s take on the American Wild West. The trailer faithfully brings to life characters like Gyro Zeppelli and Diego Brando from Steel Ball Run’s unique parallel universe that follows the game-changing ending of “Stone Ocean.”
