Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima used his official X account on October 5, 2024 to share his thoughts on anime Dandadan is currently airing, praising its themes of the paranormal and UFOs while expressing enthusiasm for its unique style.
In his post, Kojima mentioned that although he had not read the original manga, its themes of UFOs and supernatural Dandadan immediately caught his attention.
“I was a little bored reading so I browsed through my subscriptions. Seeing that the anime 'Dandadan' was out, I decided to watch the first episode. I haven't read the original manga, but being from a generation that loves the paranormal and UFOs, it's really fascinating 🛸 I also flipped through 'Mu' magazine.“
He then went on to praise the animation studio behind it Dandadan Science SARU, noted their distinctive use of lenses and animation style, and expressed appreciation for Naoyuki Onda's character designs.
He also gave a nod to voice actress Shion Wakayama, who voices Momo Ayase in the series, saying that he plans to continue watching future episodes.
“I like Science SARU's unique use of lenses and their animation style. I'm also reassured to know that Naoyuki Onda, someone from the same generation as me, is handling the character design. Shion Wakayama is also present. I will continue to watch this content.”
The anime Dandadan produced by Science Saru premiered on October 3, 2024. It is streamed on Netflix and Crunchyroll.
Fuga Yamashiro is the director of the anime adaptation, and Hiroshi Seko is in charge of the script. Kensuke Ushio composed the music, Naoyuki Onda designed the characters, and Yoshimichi Kameda designed the aliens and supernatural entities.

Dandadan
strong> is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. It has been serialized on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ service since April 2021, with the chapters collected into 15 tankobon volumes as of July 2024.
The series is published simultaneously in English and Spanish on Shueisha's Manga Plus platform and in English on Viz Media's Shonen Jump website.
