The story is about Shinpei returning to his home island to attend the funeral of his childhood friend Ushio. When he asked about her death, he found marks of strangulation on her body and that she had been murdered. He and Ushio’s sister Mio do some investigation and when they get close to the truth they are brutally murdered. Shinpei finds himself at the island’s port on the day he arrives to attend the funeral. Although he can go back every time he is killed and take measures to prevent his death, the ability to time travel has its limitations and is not as reliable as he thinks. There’s a conspiracy bigger than he can imagine, and Ushio’s death is just the beginning.
Summertime Rendering has explosive action that will leave anyone stunned. From the creators of Pokémon and Berserk, the anime features surprisingly stunning visuals and even more incredible animation. The studio spared no resources to make the film as brilliant as possible, even bringing in pioneering animator Arifumi Imai, who worked on many of Attack On Titan’s most iconic battles, to bring to life the fight between Ushio and a shadow. It’s easy to say that every match takes a lot of planning and care, each match being better than the last.
Although the series is officially classified as a horror/mystery anime, this does not do it justice as it is more than just an anime that keeps fans on the edge of their seats. There’s plenty of heartwarming romance, great action, and a plot so complex it puts many plot-driven anime to shame. The best part is that the series is packed into 24 episodes, making it a great series to watch. This is an example of a time travel anime done right and is arguably better than Stein’s Gate and Erased in this aspect.
