Earlier this month, fans of the miComet of Hololive, including members of Generation 0 Sakura Miko and Hoshimachi Suisei, was treated to the scene of VTubers performing the opening song OSHI NO KO “Idol” during OSHI NO KO’s 5th anniversary event on August 1 (JST). Now, YouTube channel Sakura Miko has released a recording of the miComet cover of the popular anime song, with a tutorial video ;3ZUTAMA of the cover with illustrations from Rosuuri, Nana and Zumihir.

“Idol” was first released on April 12, the same day OSHI NO KO was released. During the live stream following the anniversary live stream, Hoshimachi Suisei revealed that Sakura Miko had wanted to perform the song together before the full version of the song was released.
Heading YOASOBI has since become a huge success with Billboard Japan reporting on August 30 that “Idol” has topped the Japan Hot 100 chart for 20 consecutive weeks since its debut on the chart dated August 19. 4. It also topped Billboard’s Global chart (excluding the US) and Apple Music’s Top 100: Worldwide chart. The song’s animated music video has received 298 million views at the time of writing, while the English version has so far garnered 25 million views since its release on May 25.
“Idol” has been covered by many other Hololive VTubers, including Amane Kanata, Hakui Koyori, Murasaki Shion, Momosuzu Nene, Sakamata Chloe, Mori Calliope and iRyS. On August 7, Kazama Iroha’s YouTube channel released a cover of “Idol” duet with AZKi, while Astel Leda and Kanade Izuru of HOLOSTAR released the cover about an hour before the miComet version.
Non-Hololive members such as the couple HIMEHINA and Hoshikawa Sara, Kotoka Torahime and Elu of Nijisanji also covered the song.
OSHI NO KO is an adaptation of a Japanese entertainment-themed manga written by Aka Akasaka with art by Mengo Yokoyari, about two idol fans reincarnated as the children of idols they both admire. The second season is in production.
