Gibson is teaming up with Bocchi the Rock! to release a limited edition guitar.
According to a Gibson Brands Japan press release published on Crunchyroll, the collaboration revealed the guitar’s design, which is based on the Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar—the same model used by protagonist Hitori Goto of Bocchi the Rock!, commonly known as “Bocchi.” You can only buy the limited edition guitar after entering and winning the lottery, only 200 guitars will be released for this event.
To be allowed to purchase one of the 200 guitars available, lottery participants must fill out a form (available on Aniplex’s EC ANIPLEX+ website) between November 15 and November 28, 2023. Lottery winners will be announced by December 6, 2023, allowing them to purchase one of the limited edition guitars with the words “Bocchi Plate” on the pickguard, along with a Bocchi gig bag. The set costs a total of 128,000 yen (about 850 USD).
Bocchi Kick! began as a seinen manga series created by Aki Hamaji, serialized in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine since 2017. A spin-off series titled Bocchi the Rock! Gaiden: Hiroi Kikuri’s Deep Sake Diary tells the story of fan-favorite character Kikuri Hiroi, which was first published in July of this year on Houbunsha’s Comic Fuz website. The anime adaptation of Hamaji’s manga is produced by CloverWorks, premiering in October 2022 and airing until December 2022. The recent surprise hit has beaten fan-favorite series like Spy x Family and Chainsaw Man at the 2023 Newtype Anime Awards.
The story follows protagonist Hitori “Bocchi” Goto, a young girl with extreme social anxiety who spent her middle school years without a single friend. After watching an interview with a member of a famous band who was struggling with similar problems at school, she resolved to learn guitar and form her own band, uploading her own sound. Go online under the alias “guitarhero”. Now in high school and her dreams still unfulfilled, Bocchi’s life changed dramatically when drummer Nijika Ijichi approached her and asked her to play in his band.
A two-part film titled Theater Omnibus Bocchi the Rock! has been announced and will be released in Spring and Summer 2024 respectively.
