Voice actor of Franky in the anime Spy x Family, Hiroyuki Yoshino, shared about his experience playing the character, likening it to a comedy duo where each person supports the other. Since Franky’s backstory wasn’t shown much in the anime, Yoshino felt free to have fun. He details one of the best examples of this from episode 5, when he admits likes to joke (improvise/come up with original lines on the fly) his iconic “Mojajajaja” laugh as a villain.
Scene of Hiroyuki Yoshino ad-libs “Mojajajaja” laughing as he kidnaps Anya
“To be honest, I didn’t do it with the intention of lying,” Yoshino said. “That episode adapted a few pages of the original manga into a longer anime original story so the script and animation were also original. I matched the lines to that, so it’s not like something I came up with. However, there was only one word’Moja’ written per line in the script, so I thought repeating it instead of just saying it once would be funnier. Especially in a scene like playing pretend with a child, it’s better to really get into it. So in the scene Franky laughed loudly and said’Mojajajajajajajajaaaaa!’Also, that’s like the’symbol’in the cartoon we watched as kids. Sticking something like ‘Moja’ at the end of a line is a bad guy trait. I think that will be easier to understand.”
He describes the banter again in the Spy x Family Season 2 Premiere. “Basically, I wanted to include as much of ‘Moja’ as possible,” he said. “For episode 26 [mùa 2, tập 1]I feel like a sound director [Shoji] Hata-san also said to use ‘Mojamoja’ there because I used it in the previous episode. Ad-libs should arise naturally, not be a place to insert nonsense. I guess you could say it continued from season 1 to season 2.” As he and Anya watch Loid’s date with Yor, Franky calls Loid “Mojajajadasee” is the mojajaja-fied version of “dasee“, which means “loser”. The initial line is a simple “dasee.” Anya asks if Franky has a corrupt personality after all.
Franky calls Loid “Mojajajadasee” as he and Anya watch Loid’s date with Yor, which doesn’t go well.
These examples are why Franky is beloved by the Spy x Family fanbase, but Yoshino doesn’t think he’s that popular. With all the Spy x Family merchandise out there, “I really don’t feel the popularity of Frankie (laughs),” Yoshino said. “Wherever I go, I see merch and with all the collaborations with different places, I’m like, ‘Mojamoja, he’s not here at all!'(laughs), but honestly said, I think he’s very famous. I hope to one day be able to take advantage of that popularity.”
The newer Spy x Family collaboration includes Halloween images with the popular anime Jujutsu Kaisen and Duolingo, which can be viewed in Anime Corner’s Halloween Wrapped. The article is filled with images celebrating the spooky season. Similar to Yoshino, Jujutsu Kaisen voice actor for Jogo Shigeru Chiba don’t think he’s compared to his fellow characters in any other sense. The voice actor talks about feeling defeated and exhausted while fighting Sukuna, knowing that his strength is nothing compared to it.
Hiroyuki Yoshino was born on February 6, 1974 in Chiba, Japan and had his first role in the film series Saber Marionette J. Yoshino has voiced many iconic characters, including main character Yusuke Fujisaki (Bossun ) by Sket Dance, Present Mic in My Hero AcadeKaren and Genthru in Hunter X Hunter 2011.
