The anime community has spoken — Naruto’s couples rank as the fandom’s all-time favorite couples.
According to a recent survey by Japanese news site Numan, fans consider Sasuke Sasuke and Sakura Haruno to be the best married couple in all of anime. Right behind are Uzumaki Naruto and Hyuga Hinata. These results are significant, as they show that Masashi Kishimoto’s approach to marital romance holds up even when compared to other popular series. The third and fourth place winners were Yoh Asakura and Anna Kyoyama from Shaman King and Loid and Yor Forger from Spy x Family, respectively, followed by pairings such as Bleach, Sword Art Online and Fullmetal Alchemist, among others. others.
Sasuke and Sakura originally met as young students at the ninja academy but later joined forces with Naruto as Team 7 under the leadership of Kakashi Hatake. While Sakura’s feelings were initially a superficial one, her feelings grew deeper throughout the series, persisting even after Sasuke turned his back on the Hidden Leaf village. After years of waiting, fans got to see Sakura and Sasuke admit their feelings for each other in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Sakura’s dedication to Sasuke had a strong emotional impact on many fans; one of Numan’s voters wrote, “Sakura’s long unrequited love has blossomed and (they) can finally get married. Even though (they) don’t show it in words, you can tell they really care about each other.”
Similarly, Hinata has had an unrequited love for Naruto for many years, admiring him from afar because of her shyness. However, she bravely intervened on Naruto’s behalf during the “Pain” arc, protecting him from certain death in a tense battle. Pierrot’s animated series, The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) delved deeper into the history of their relationship, starting from when they first met as children. Naruto Shippuden dedicated its final episode to the couple’s wedding ceremony.
Unlike Naruto, the Shaman King’s power couple were betrothed to each other by their parents. While Yoh aspires to become a great magician, he is often hindered by his own laziness. Realizing her partner’s hidden potential, Anna helps Yoh overcome his lazy tendencies and hone his abilities. One voter noted that, when they were middle school students, their relationship was more like that of an older, more mature couple.
In contrast to the Shaman King, Loid and Yor in Spy x Family initially get married just to maintain appearances in their respective social circles. While sharing a home and caring for their adopted daughter Anya, a close family relationship blossoms, eventually leading to more complicated romantic feelings between Loid and Yor. This aspect of their relationship appealed to many voters, who also appreciated the couple’s mutual trust and respect.
