Many people may think that naming a game is extremely simple, can even be considered just a formality and has absolutely no effect on the fate, success or failure of the project. But sometimes, there are still some things that developers should probably avoid. A typical example is naming your game with the word “Fall”. Because reality has shown that, in the past, many game titles failed miserably when associated with this keyword.
The most obvious is the Titanfall series. Both parts one and two of this project received many positive reviews from experts, but both failed miserably with poor sales. Titanfall 2 is of high quality, but it was released on the same day with a series of blockbusters that were almost lost. And if there’s anything that proves the quality of these two games, just look at Apex Legends – one of the most successful blockbusters today, whose predecessor is the Titanfall series mentioned above. More recently, Babylon’s Fall – a blockbuster that once received countless expectations also literally collapsed. There were times when there was only one player on the entire server, and a series of bugs and performance issues caused the project to stop working a short time later. The name being mentioned in this story is Atlas Fallen – also a blockbuster product with huge investment but failed quickly after its launch.
.
Ignoring the “stupid” naming factor, Atlas Fallen quickly shows its weakness compared to its competitors. The game’s plot was initially introduced in a very promising way, but after experiencing it, there were almost no memorable highlights throughout the length of the game. The main plot just goes by, without a single plot twist or detail or hint embedded within. Atlas Fallen’s movement mechanism is also quite poorly designed. In addition, the previously introduced co-op mechanism could not meet expectations. The only plus point of this game is probably the good graphics and sound.
Those are also the main reasons why Atlas Fallen is currently receiving a lot of criticism from gamers. Many gamers even joke that perhaps from now on, developers should gradually avoid naming projects with the word Fall to limit “dumbness” like the names mentioned above. However, this is probably just for entertainment and humor, but in reality, there is no shortage of games that despite owning “Fall” are hugely successful, of which Fall Guys is the most obvious example.
