If you were to name one of the game publishers that has left the most mark in the past few years, it would certainly be difficult to ignore FromSoftware. With both Elden Ring and Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon both released and receiving tons of adoration, things are looking better than ever for FromSoftware . But for fans of Elden Ring, 2023 may not be a year as expected.
For simplicity, throughout this year, Elden Ring has hardly had any new content lines. Aside from the introduction of a super-huge DLC version called Shadow of the Erdtree, the best game of 2022 is still relatively quiet. This DLC itself does not have any information yet, other than some images released in the early part of the year. FromSoftware claims that Shadow of the Erdtree will be shown when it’s ready, but there’s still no sign of this DLC.
Remember, FromSoftware has a pretty “bad” tradition, which is that the time between the introduction and the official product launch is relatively long. Elden Ring was first announced in 2019, but it took nearly 700 days for the game to officially launch. Even Armored Core 6 Rubicon also suffers from certain delays. Therefore, it is difficult for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion version to be released to gamers this year. And most likely, in the best case scenario, Shadow of the Erdtree will only be introduced at The Game Awards later this year.
The question of when Shadow of the Erdtree will release will probably continue to linger in the minds of Elden Ring gamers. There is a high possibility that this DLC version will only be released in February 2024 at the earliest or next summer at the latest. Shadow of the Erdtree itself also needs time to complete as it will add many open world areas, which are already very dense in the current Elden Ring, so extending the development phase is reasonable.
