One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda's staff account on X (formerly Twitter) has revealed some of the oldest surviving One Piece artwork, including Luffy, Nami, and Zoro from before the manga was published. first time. The image of Luffy holding a long weapon that could be a spear or staff is inspired by Sun Wukong/The Monkey King. Sketches have been released for the upcoming DVD and guidebook edition of the anime Monsters, adapted from another of Oda's early works.

The image was revealed as One Piece fans are currently waiting for more work from Oda, who has been on a three-week hiatus. Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation was adapted into a one-episode anime by E&H Production, with Park responsible for directing and writing the script. The episode was released in January 2024 on Netflix, which describes:
A samurai's path leads him to a young waitress whose hometown was destroyed by a dragon. He didn't want to get into trouble — but it found them anyway.
