Summary
The death of Raditz, Goku’s brother, was revealed to be one of Goku’s biggest mistakes due to recent revelations in Dragon Ball Super. Goku’s lack of remorse for killing Raditz goes against his usual kind and compassionate nature, potentially depriving Raditz of a great destiny. Despite Raditz’s death, there’s still a chance he could return in Dragon Ball Super, especially if Goku becomes curious about his family and finds a way to work with his brother.
The death of radius, GokuGoku’s brother, occurs at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, and it is one of the rare (perhaps the only) cases where Goku does not regret the death of his enemy, however, it may is a mistake. Thanks to some important revelations in this one Super Dragon BallIn recent chapters, the decision to kill his brother was not only a mistake but also one of Goku’s biggest mistakes ever.
Goku belongs to the Saiyan race, a powerful warrior race that makes a living conquering and selling planets. Strength is everything to a Saiyan and their fighting ability is assessed from birth. Goku’s father, Bardock, was a low-level warrior who showed great potential and died trying to stop the galactic tyrant Frieza from destroying the planet of the Saiyan, Vegeta. Bardock has two sons: the eldest, Raditz, was on a mission to another planet when Frieza destroyed Vegeta; Goku was just a baby, but he was sent to Earth in a spaceship shortly before his planet exploded. Years later, Raditz (who had been informed of Goku’s location by their parents) arrived on Earth and attempted to recruit his younger brother into the Frieza Army. In the process, he tells Goku (who lost his memories after arriving on Earth) about his Saiyan heritage, paving the way for future developments in the story.
Raditz’s death is one of Dragon Ball’s most unintentional tragedies
Goku and Piccolo fight against Raditz and even though he is stronger than both of them, he still kills him thanks to Goku sacrificing his life so that Piccolo can hit them both with his special Beam Cannon. Goku never expressed any regret for killing his brother nor his wish to bring him back at any time using the Dragon Balls. Goku’s behavior is very odd because unlike other Saiyans, Goku is kind, merciful, and often expresses his desire to let his opponents live. However, Goku’s lack of concern for his brother could be a big mistake. In Dragon Ball Super chapter #83 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, a flashback shows Bardock’s fight against Gas on Planet Grain. The Saiyans are fighting to protect Granolah and Monaito, a Namekian who uses the Dragon Balls to grant Bardock a wish. Refusing any help in the war, Bardock wished his sons to prosper in the future.
Applied to Goku, this wish makes sense because he would become one of the strongest warriors in the universe and a hero who has saved the galaxy many times. However, it seems that wish did not come to Raditz because of his short life serving Frieza. So, it’s possible that Raditz was also destined to do great things, just like Goku, but his death at the hands of his brother stopped his progress. The comparison to Vegeta is striking. Goku gave Vegeta a second chance, and the Saiyan Prince eventually became Vegeta’s best friend and equal in strength. If he did the same to Raditz, or if he revived him with more opportunities available, Bardock’s two sons could flourish together as guardians of the universe.
Could Raditz return in Dragon Ball Super?
Although the chances of Raditz returning are quite low, death has never stopped anyone in Dragon Ball. Raditz can be revived by the Dragon Balls at any time and it only takes enough motivation for Goku to do so. One area of Dragon Ball lore that Dragon Ball Super has largely overlooked is Elseworlds, so there’s always the possibility that the Elseworlds arc of Dragon Ball Super could see Goku face off against his brother me again. With Goku only just learning about his father, it could make him finally curious about his other family member (and Vegeta’s old friend). Of course, all of that hinges on the idea that Raditz might be willing to team up with Goku.
Raditz’s strong connection to Goku makes it difficult to understand why the character was never explored or developed further. The big reveal is in Super Dragon Ball Throw in a lot of shade Gokuhis past actions, hinted at his decision to kill his brother radius possibly his worst mistake
