Bandai Namco Entertainment began airing the opening movie of Dragon Ball: Sparking on Monday! Zero, a new game in the arena fighting series Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi. The film features the song “Genkai Toppa × Survivor” (Limit Breaking × Survivor) by Kiyoshi Hikawa, which is also the second opening theme song of the TV anime Dragon Ball Super.

The game launches Friday for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Those who pre-order the game can unlock six characters early. The game also comes in a Premium Collector's Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition. These versions allow customers to play the game three days early.
The first 24 characters announced include Goku, Vegeta and their various forms and transformations. The list also includes Gohan in various ages and forms, multiple versions of Future Trunks, Master Roshi, Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, Mr. Satan, Videl, Beerus, Whis, Raditz, Nappa, Saibaman, Frieza and his various forms, Frieza Force Soldier, Cui, Dodoria, Zarbon, Guldo, Recoome, Burter, Jeice, Ginyu, Android 17, Android 18, Android 16, Android 19, Dr. Gero (also known as Android 20), Cell and his various forms, Cell Jr., King Cold, Buu's various forms, Spopovich, Dabura, Cabba, Frost, Hit, Goku Black, Zamasu, Jiren, Toppo, Dyspo, Kakunsa, Ribrianne, Roasie, Anilaza, different versions of Baby, Syn Shenron, Omega Shenron, Pan, Bardock, Broly, Cooler, Android 13, Super Garlic Jr., Dr. Wheelo, Lord Slug, Turles, Bojack, Hirudegarn, Tapion and Janemba. The game also includes Trunks, Goten, Caulifla, Kale and various combinations of them and other characters. With the Goku (Mini) pre-order figure from the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima anime, there is a roster of 182 characters.
The game features Episode Battle, a single-player mode from the perspective of eight different characters: Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks, Frieza, Goku Black and Jiren. There are choices that can lead to “what if” scenarios that differ from the original story. Custom Battles allow players to create battles with original scenes that can be uploaded online for others to fight. In that mode are Bonus Matches, scenarios created by the developer. In addition to online and single-player multiplayer, the game will have local offline multiplayer, but limited to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber arena.
The Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi (Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! in Japan) 3D action fighting game first released in 2005 for PlayStation 2.
The second game, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Neo in Japan), launched for the PS2 in Japan in October 2006, and in Europe, North America and Australia in October. November 2006. The Nintendo Wii version of the game was released in North America in November 2006, in Japan in January 2007, and in Europe and Australia in March and April 2007, respectively.
The third installment of the game, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Meteor in Japan), was released for PS2 and Wii in Japan in October 2007. The game launched for PlayStation 2 in Japan. North America and Europe in November 2007. The Wii version of the game launched in North America in December 2007, and in Europe and Australia in February 2008.
The most recent game in the series, Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team, launched in August 2010 for the PlayStation Portable. This game is the only game in the Budokai Tenkaichi series to run on handheld consoles.
