A new trailer for the film adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s Sand Land manga has been released.
Posted to the film’s official Twitter account, the video highlights the iconic mangaka’s unique blend of humor and action. Furthermore, it revealed more members of Sand Land’s voice cast; Mutsumi Tamura (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!) will play the protagonist Beelzebub and will star Kazuhiro Yamaji (Attack on Titan) as Rao, Chō (Log Horizon) as Thief , Satoshi Tsuruoka (Psycho-Pass) as General Are and Nobuo Tobita (One-Punch Man) as General Zau.
Sunrise, the animation studio behind classics like Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and multiple entries in the Mobile Suit Gundam series, will produce the film. Toshihisa Yokoshima (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s New Dinosaur) is directing Sand Land, with Hayashi Mori (Cells at Work! Code Black) writing the script and Yūgo Kanno (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable) composing the music.

Toriyama’s Sand Land manga appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from May to August 2000, producing a total of 14 chapters combined into a single volume. Set in a desert world where both humans and demons suffer from an astonishing scarcity of water, the story follows the demon prince Beelzebub and his companion, a scene small town chief named Rao, as they search for the legendary Ghost.
Sand Land will hit theaters in Japan on August 18, but at the time of this writing, a North American or international release date has yet to be confirmed. However, there are many ways that Toriyama fans can enjoy the distinctive art style and quirky creations of mangaka. Most notably, Bandai Namco and Toei Animation released a trailer for the new title in the Dragon Ball Z video game series: Budokai Tenkaichi. Inspired by Toriyama’s beloved and best-selling Dragon Ball manga, these games let players take control of fan-favorite characters like Son Goku and Vegeta and battle it out. The previous main entry in the series debuted in 2007, meaning the announcement of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 was a big surprise for many.
Furthermore, the ongoing Dragon Ball Super manga will depict the events of the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero written by Toriyama. Fans of the film can expect some surprises as the manga will present its own story spin.
