Code Geass: Z of the Recapture has revealed key art for the upcoming theatrical release of its first act. The anime's first season will premiere on May 10 in Japan and will be followed by additional seasons on June 7, July 5, and August 2. The 12-episode anime includes The story will begin airing on Disney in June.

Although it is part of the Code Geass series, Z of the Recapture will have a new story with new characters. The plot focuses on brothers Rose and Ash, mercenaries participating in the battle with the 100th Emperor of Britannia. Sakuya Sumeragi (voiced by Reina Ueda), who resembles Kaguya Sumeragi from the original series, will play an important role in the story. Kohei Amasaki voices Rose, while Makoto Furukawa voices Ash.
Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi are credited with writing the story of Code Geass: Z of the Recapture. Yoshimitsu Ohashi will direct, with Noboru Kimura composing the film. CLAMP is once again credited as the original character designer with Takahiro Kimura and Hidekazu Shimamura serving as the film's character designers. MIYAVI will be in charge of the title song “Running in My Head”.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is an original anime series from studio Sunrise. Goro Taniguchi directed and Ichiro Okouchi wrote the script. The CLAMP team designed the original character. The first season aired from October 2006 to July 2007 and had 25 episodes. A sequel, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, aired from April 2008 to September 2008 and also had 25 episodes. The franchise is home to many OVA side stories; The 5-episode film Code Geass: Akito the Exiled stood out and was well received.
A film trilogy recapping the events in both parts was released between 2017 and 2018. The story adapts the two parts but has also been released and is set in an alternate universe where the events happen differently. The trilogy is titled Inception, Transgression and Tribute. This was followed by an original sequel film, titled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection in 2019. Multiple manga and light novel adaptations of the series also exist.
Z of the Recapture was announced alongside the gacha mobile game Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE, which is due out in 2021.
