Tony Tony Chopper is an interesting character, he is one of the most beloved characters of the Straw Hat crew and the entire One Piece story. However, at first, Chopper had a very different face than the appearance we know today.
Author Eiichiro Oda is famous for creating very unusual characters. Even a talking reindeer is something quite unusual, right? Now imagine what if Chopper smoked again?
In Oda’s original sketches, Chopper had a more angry and rebellious feel than we see in the version that eventually became famous. The Straw Hat crew’s doctor has prominent stripes on his body and has a smoking habit. Which led people to call Chopper’s original style “half-smoking reindeer”.
There is even a debate among fans about whether Chopper would still be the Straw Hats’ doctor if he kept his original appearance. There are many people who believe that smoking continuously is not good for becoming a doctor. However, Oda may still keep Chopper in the role of doctor. Like Sanji is a good cook but also has a smoking habit.
There are fans who imagine Chopper will have a huskier voice, recalling the time he switched personalities with Franky in Punk Hazard. Of course there are still some people who prefer Chopper as it is now.
Some have even compared the long face in Chopper’s original design to Chouchou, the loyal dog from the “Orange Town” arc, who guarded his deceased owner’s shop until the gang’s death. Buggy pirates destroyed this place. Luffy finally taught the Buggy Pirates a lesson for this.
