The recent anime showcase MAPPA Stage 2023 disappointed Chainsaw Man fans.
Anime fans have taken to social media to express their frustration with the lack of new content following the MAPPA stage performance, as reported by Sportskeeda. The event updates and reveals projects the production company is working on, with the action-thriller series getting no big news. This lack of information shocked many viewers who watched, hoping to see the Season 2 announcement and trailer.
The Chainsaw Man anime ended its predecessor in a disastrous failure, leaving many fans yearning for a sequel to the series. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation that the anime will continue at the time of writing. However, a recent interview with the CEO of MAPPA (Manabu Otsuka) said that they are still eager to find success for it, despite claiming that it performed worse than their expectations. “We will explore how to reach the target audience who will pay for the work of the CSM,” said Otsuka.
How MAPPA Brings Chainsaw Man to Its Live Event
Although MAPPA did not give any updates on the series, the show did provide some content for fans. This included a segment where the main trio’s voice actors — Kikonusuke Toya (Denji), Ai Fairouz (Power), and Shogo Sakata (Aki) — discussed their favorite moments in the anime. Tomori Kusunoki, the voice actor for Makima, was also slated to appear but had to withdraw from the show due to illness. In addition, a giant mascot version of the Demon Dog Pochita also appeared.
MAPPA’s theatrical show featured updates to some of the company’s most prominent properties. For example, a trailer was revealed for the upcoming second season of CSM’s “Dark Trilogy” member Jujutsu Kaisen. Additionally, the Viking epic Vinland Saga currently airing has received a trailer that summarizes the story so far and hints at the end of the upcoming Season 2. Attack on Titan also received a new key visual. Finally, a new original anime project called Bucchigiri?! has been revealed.
Chainsaw Man follows a young man named Denji who becomes a popular hero after merging with his pet dog. He soon joins Public Safety as a demon hunter and uses his newfound powers as a human-demon hybrid to appease the mysterious Makima’s will. Studio MAPPA adapted the manga series written by Tatsuki Fujimoto in 2022 and received generally positive reviews.
The film is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Alternatively, fans can read the manga on the Viz media website, with Chapter 130 to be released on May 23, 2023.
