Iconic K-Pop group BTS is teaming up with Crunchyroll for the upcoming superhero anime, Bastions.
As detailed in a recent press release, Crunchyroll has acquired the streaming rights to Bastions, directed by South Korea-based production company Thymos Media. The show features a main track and BTS theme song, as well as additional songs by K-Pop girl group Le Sserafim. Solo artists HeiZe and AleXa will also produce songs for the film. Crunchyroll will begin streaming Bastions on May 13 for all territories globally except China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, North Korea, and South Korea.
What is Anime Bastion?
Bastions is set in a My Hero Academia-type world where superheroes are mainstream and often compete for popularity. The plot focuses on a group of fledgling heroes and their struggle against a giant super corporation called Wash Green that is secretly polluting the planet. Bastions must work together to remove Green’s eco-friendly mask and save humanity’s home. A representative of Thymos Media excitedly talked about the story of the film and BTS’ involvement in the project. “BTS is expected to bring a sense of immersion in the emotions and action scenes of the story by singing the theme song in perfect harmony,” the company said.
Crunchyroll is also excited to host Bastions, saying it’s a great opportunity to introduce anime fans to other Asian animation genres. Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll said, “Crunchyroll has a great opportunity to introduce fans to more animation styles from Asia and this exciting new series from Korea does just that. there. “And the music of so many K-Pop stars has really broadened the appeal of Bastions.”
BTS’ last major project was the compilation album “Proof”, which was released last June. Le Sserafim released their first studio album “Unforgiven” earlier this month, along with a music video for the album’s title track. HeiZe released his second full-length album, “Undo” last June, featuring a number of other popular artists, including Korean singer George and Korean rapper Giriboy. In April of this year, HeiZE released a digital single titled “Vingle Vingle”. One of AleXa’s latest releases is her mini album, “Girls Gone Vogue”, which was released last November. The singer also made her acting debut last April, appearing in the horror anthology film Urban Myths directed by Hong Won-Ki.
Bastions is scheduled to launch on Crunchyroll on May 13.
