Episode 6 of Brave Bang Braven! Easily the funniest installment of the season so far, with great action.
Nearly all of the comedy in this episode worked. There’s plenty of comedy on offer, from character-based moments to slapstick slapstick to fourth-wall-breaking silliness. Of course, the most meta joke is when Braven punches Superbai with the 4Kids Install Breaker™ (this is the official name, not something I made up, don’t get into it) and lets everyone understand him. Braven specifically says that now all the children in the world can understand him, with the special joke here (possibly) being that Texas is one of the main dubbing centers of the United States. In my opinion, this is an inside baseball joke that works.
Braven has been goofy all season but he seems to have become a more positive comedic figure in this week’s outing. I especially like the part where he shows his title screen behind him when he challenges Superbai to the opening battle. I think what’s interesting is how—at least in my mind—he subtly begins to change. I think in the early episodes of the show it seemed like Bravern simply had a different energy than the rest of the cast, as if the audience knew he was from a super robot series but in the text he was a bit odd. comparison duck. At this point, I think it’s clear that he’s very aware that he’s a super robot, and I absolutely love that.
There are other great things here, like the plethora of solid robot designs and impressive moments with Braven redirecting the missile. What stood out to me, however, was Smith watching tokusatsu on his tablet before starting to do his work—I felt exposed.
