Studio 8bit also animated the first season of BLUE LOCK, which premiered last October and ran for two seasons. The main cast of the Blue Lock anime includes Soma Saito (Hyoma Chigiri), Kazuki Ura (Yoichi Isagi), Yuki Ono (Rensuke Kunigami), and Tasuku Kaito (Meguru Bachira).
The anime is based on a manga fairy tale written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Kodansha is publishing the manga in English and they describe the story:
After a disastrous 2018 World Cup, the Japanese national team is trying to regroup. But what is missing? A brilliant striker who can lead them to victory! The Football Association is determined to create a striker who is hungry for goals and hungry for victory, and who can be the decisive tool in turning the tables… To do so, they have gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest young players. Who will emerge to lead the group… and can they overcome the brawn and ego of those standing in their way?
We had the opportunity to interview Kazuki Ura (Isagi's Japanese voice actor), Ryoya Arisawa (anime producer), and Megumu Tsuchiya (manga editor) at this year's Anime Expo. We talked to them about the process of creating the manga and anime, the challenges they faced in creating a work that fans around the world love, and what to expect from the upcoming season 2.
