Until now, most of Blizzard’s famous games such as Overwatch, Overwatch 2, Hearthstone or the Diablo series will only allow players to experience when they use its own platform, Battle.net. However, this era may soon change in the near future, when an extremely unexpected information has appeared. Specifically, Blizzard will soon shake hands with Valve, and at the same time move some of its games to Steam – the world’s largest gaming platform at the moment.
Basically, this is quite a surprise move when you remember that Battle.net was introduced in 1996, long before Steam launched and so far, Blizzard is also the only publisher that can completely ignore Steam without any gamers complaining. However, everything has changed when on this August 10, Overwatch 2 will have a separate page on Steam. To experience this game, players still need a Battle.net account. Explaining its decision, Blizzard said that simply because the game industry has grown, it is no longer as isolated as before and this publisher also wants to remove its own barriers.
Blizzard President Mike Ybarra also admitted that this decision also comes from listening to the hearts of fans. However, the thing that players are most interested in right now is whether after Overwatch 2, other famous Blizzard games will soon appear on Steam. The answer will be yes and no. Hearthstone is a very possible name for a Steam arrival in the near future, but with Diablo 4, things probably won’t be so simple. The reason is also very simple, because currently, this blockbuster is still showing its strong attraction and attracting a large number of players. So there’s no reason for Blizzard to actively bring this game to Steam, where they’ll have to split a percentage of the revenue with Valve.
In contrast, both Hearthstone and especially Overwatch 2 are seeing a drop in player numbers over time. Therefore, the release on Steam of these two games can completely bring a new life, attracting a large number of players to the two games.
