Bleach: Thousand Years’ Blood War Episode 20 Summary: How strong is Gremmy?
At the beginning of this episode, we see 4th Division Lieutenant, Isane Kotetsu, and 11th Division Lieutenant Yachiru Kusajishi, inside the makeshift first aid station tending to the wounded when someone suddenly attacks them.
Then, Stern Ritter “V”, “Vanishing Point” Gwenael Lee appeared in front of them and began to attack them. Yachiru Kusajishi tried to fight back but was unable to pinpoint Gwenael Lee’s exact location. Gwenael Lee then explained his power.
His powers are made up of three versions. Version 1: Gwenael Lee can erase his form. Version 2: Gwenael Lee can erase his existence. Version 3: Gwenael Lee can erase his existence from people’s minds. Gwenael Lee’s existence was suddenly erased from Yachiru’s mind.
Gwenael Lee appeared in front of Yachiru again, and this time she punched Gwenael Lee right away. Yachiru explained that she was sure that Gwenael Lee was the enemy because she felt a chill when she saw Gwenael Lee. She was told that it was important to trust these tingling sensations.
Tingling sensations that make her feel cold, hot, or happy. Yachiru then took out his Zanpakutō and readied himself for battle. Gwenael Lee then appeared behind Yachiru, but she suddenly slashed Gwenael Lee with her sword. Gwenael Lee was shocked to see him slashed, as he was sure he dodged the attack.
Yachiru then explains that her sword will strike the target whether they dodge or not. Her sword is a replica. There are copies on the front and back of her sword. So the more Gwenael Lee tries to measure distance and time, the more likely he is to guess wrong and get hit.
Yachiru then calls her Shikai “Sanpo Kenju” and two pit-like creatures appear behind her. Kotetsu is shocked to see Yachiru’s Shikai as her sword doesn’t change form, and it’s not even the actualization of Zanpakutō’s true form which is said to have occurred through Bankai training. Kotetsu claims that she did not know such a Shikai existed.
Then we see Gwenael Lee suddenly hurt by something else. Near the wounded captains sat another Quincy. The other Quincy told Gwenael Lee that he fought well for someone who was a product of his imagination.
Gwenael Lee then tries to attack another Quincy (whose name is revealed to be Gremmy) but is unexpectedly killed by Gremmy. Gremmy tells Kotetsu that he killed the wounded captains. Yachiru suddenly attacked Gremmy, but her arm was twisted.
Gremmy asks Yachiru to imagine what would happen if the bones in her arm were made from biscuits. Then he said that Yachiru had just thought that her bones would spontaneously break.
Gremmy then tells Yachiru to imagine if the bones on her arm were made of biscuits, then maybe the rest of her bones were cookies too. Then, Yachiru suddenly fell to the ground, and all her bones crumbled like a cookie. Gremmy then explains that everything he imagines comes true.
Suddenly the roof falls and Kenpachi Zaraki appears in front of Gremmy to save Yachiru. Kotetsu asks if Captain Unohana is dead, Zaraki tells her that Unohana is dead and he is now Kenpachi.
After seeing Zaraki, Gremmy sets up a battlefield for him to fight, as it would be rude not to greet him on a grand stage. Zaraki asked if it was a spell, to which Gremmy replied that it was neither a spell nor an illusion. Gremmy then introduced himself as the “Foresight” who turned the fantasy into reality and declared that he was the strongest of the Stern Ritters.

Zaraki suddenly attacks Gremmy but is unable to cut him. Gremmy explains that he imagines that his body is much stronger than steel. But suddenly, we see Zaraki cutting Gremmy and saying that Gremmy’s imagination can’t create anything that he can’t cut.
We then see that Gremmy heals his wound by imagining that his sword wound has healed and declaring that he will defeat Zaraki and won’t even use a finger. He would kill Zaraki with only what was in his mind.
Gremmy then threw molten lava at Zaraki, nearly hitting Yachiru. Zaraki tells Yachiru to take cover, but Gremmy explains that she can’t, so her bones are as weak as a cookie.
Zaraki then jumps into the air to attack Gremmy but finds herself mid-air underwater. Gremmy then opened a rift where Yachiru was and threw both of them inside the crack while closing the rift.
Gremmy thought Zaraki would slowly die, but he suddenly rushed to Yachiru and tried to hit Gremmy. Gremmy defended herself with a stone pillar.
Yachiru’s bones return to normal, and Zaraki tells Yachiru to ask Kotetsu to heal her arm. Yachiru left the battlefield. Zaraki asks Gremmy if she wants to fight. If he was the strongest Quincy, he would have a desire to crush the strongest.
While both Zaraki and Gremmy were fighting, Gremmy wondered what Zaraki would say to her. He thinks that no one has ever tried to touch him because he is clearly the strongest. That’s why he didn’t need to prove it by killing someone.
That’s why he never felt like crushing anyone. But he wanted to crush Zaraki with all his might. That makes each other a worthy opponent. Gremmy then begins to attack Zaraki with a barrage of guns and rockets.
Zarski defended himself and said that he liked the look on Gremmy’s face, because the battle would be more fun now. Gremmy then placed herself inside a dome, but Zaraki cut it and slashed Gremmy but was unable to draw her sword.
Gremmy then crushed Zaraki inside a large rock shaped like a hand. Zaraki instantly recovered and slashed Gremmy once more. Gremmy realizes she doesn’t have much time left and will take Zaraki’s next blow.
Gremmy suddenly lost her temper and thought whether she lost to Zaraki or not. Zaraki asks Gremmy what’s wrong and he imagines losing.

Gremmy then suddenly realizes her mistake and heals herself. Gremmy thanks Zaraki and tells him that Zaraki will regret helping him. Thanks to Zaraki’s words, Gremmy was able to completely erase all thoughts of her death. Gremmy then creates a clone of herself.
Gremmy explains that he can even create life with his imagination. Zaraki tries to cut Gremmy, but now Gremmy can’t either; nor will he die, and the power of his imagination is now doubled as well.
We then see a large meteor approaching the Soul Society, powerful enough to destroy the Seireitei. Zaraki seems delighted to see a meteorite and claims that he has never cut a meteorite before. Then he asked “Nozarashi” if it was interesting.
Zaraki then jumps into the air and calls out his Shikai for the first time by saying, “Drink Nozarashi”. We see Yachiru recalling the first time she met Zaraki when Zaraki asked for her name.
Zaraki then smashes the meteorite with all his might, destroying it completely. Gremmy then increases her clone count and throws Zaraki into space. In the vacuum of space, Zaraki’s bodily fluids would evaporate and his blood would begin to boil.
His body tissues will collapse and he will die slowly. But then Zaraki pulled himself out of space and cut one of Gremmy’s clones in half. All Gremmy clones hit Zaraki with an explosion, but it doesn’t affect him.
Gremmy claims that Zaraki is a real monster and imagines herself becoming stronger than Zaraki. But Gremmy’s body suddenly began to disintegrate. Zaraki says that Gremmy turned Zaraki into a monster in his head. It was that monster that had just killed Gremmy.
In the post-credits scene of Bleach: Thousand Years of Blood, Episode 20, we see Gremmy contemplating whether he was killed by his own imagination. Then, Zaraki appeared in front of Gremmy. Gremmy says his imagination is correct.
He could completely visualize all of Zaraki’s power. But one thing that he couldn’t exactly picture was that only Zaraki’s body could withstand those powers. It was not Gremmy’s imagination that was lost to Zaraki.
That’s Gremmy’s body. Gremmy then took out her brain and placed it in front of Zaraki. Zaraki asks what it is, Gremmy replies that he told Zaraki that he would kill Zaraki without using a finger.
Even this body of his is a product of Gremmy’s imagination. Gremmy did not use a finger against Zaraki, even though Gremmy was the one who died.
