The studio also announced a list of the “20 most iconic video game characters of all time” based on a poll of more than 4,000 people from around the world last Thursday to celebrate the anniversary. awards season.
Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 won the award honoring Top Best Game at the awards ceremony. Other nominees are The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Dave the Diver.
Super Mario Bros. Nintendo's Wonder received awards in the Family and Multiplayer categories. Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom won the Technical Achievement award. Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks' Hi-Fi Rush won the Animation category. CD PROJEKT RED's Cyberpunk 2077 received an award in the Evolving Game category.
Other winners are listed on the website.
BAFTA's list of the top 20 iconic video game characters is quite interesting. Tomb Raider's Lara Croft took the top spot, beating out Mario, who took second place. Lara Croft has her fans, so even though this isn't a typical choice, it's well worth it. What's even more strange is that Agent 47 from the Hitman franchise took 3rd place, besting Sonic the Hedgehog, Link, and Pikachu. Once again, Agent 47 has his fans, but it could be considered a bold choice to list him as more iconic than Pokémon's popular mascot. Some famous newcomers like the two representatives from Baldur's Gate 3 may have influenced the results due to recency bias. On the Japanese side, other winners included Pac-Man, Metal Gear Solid's Snake, Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife and Dojima Kazuma Kiryu's own Dragon from the Yakuza series. Regardless, the results of the poll speak for themselves, including:
Lara Croft — Tomb Raider Mario — Super Mario Agent 47 — Hitman Sonic — Sonic the Hedgehog Sackboy — LittleBigPlanet Pac-Man — Pac-Man Link — The Legend of Zelda Master Chief — Halo Kratos — God of War Shadowheart — Baldur's Gate 3 Arthur Morgan — Red Dead Redemption 2 Pikachu — Pokémon Steve — Minecraft Solid Snake — Metal Gear Solid Crash Bandicoot — Crash Bandicoot Cloud Strife — Final Fantasy VII Astarion — Baldur's Gate 3 Kazuma Kiryu — Yakuza Ellie Williams — The Last of Us Nathan Drake — Uncharted
